Honey bees hatch out of the honeycomb cell by chewing off the wax cap to join the colony and begin working. As soon as the newly hatched bee emerges from the cell, worker bees will come in and clean and prepare it for the queen to lay another egg. The queen requires a cell to be completely immaculate before she will lay her egg in it.
